  1. I grew up in New Orleans. There, everyone will call you “darling”. Well, “dawlin”, to be precise. And not only do men say it to women, but also women say it to men. Everyone to everyone, all the time. I think you would like it.

dude, i know what you are saying about liking to be called baby, but worrying about sending feminism back to it’s infancy. i worked it out thusly: i think of “baby” as just a nice thing that a lot of men say to a girl without thinking of it’s historical usage as a way to make women feel less than. much like many african americans have taken back the n word, i do believe that “baby” has been transformed into a respectful greeting. i mean, this is the post ricki lake world where men are in constant fear of being “kicked to the curb” and “lost as a zero in favor of a hero.” today’s man is aware of female powers and in many cases, he is afraid of them. i believe that when men call me “baby” they are in some way exalting me; thinking about it this way means that “baby” could actually be tipping the scales in women’s favor, thereby zooming feminism into the 22nd century.

dang it, i meant african americans OR african canadians…sorry, us stoop americans forget that other countries exist sometimes. no offense intended. i love me some canada. and canadians.
